My Story

I am 56 years old, father of 4 adult children, and grandfather of 6. When I was 51, I had the midlife trifecta. I got divorced, lost my job, and had to move. Adding insult to injury, my right hip needed a total replacement in June of 2023. I had to have lower lumbar fusion surgery in December of 2023. In March of 2024, I was diagnosed with prostate cancer and had a prostatectomy (robotic removal of the prostate) in June of 2024. Prior to this series of physical setbacks, I had my left hip replaced in 2016. Needless to say, the last few years of my life have been an uphill struggle physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.

My educational background includes a PhD in Rhetoric & Communication Studies from Duquesne University, a Master of Divinity from Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, and a BS in Christian Ministry from Geneva College. I have taught at several graduate and undergraduate institutions, including Duquesne Univ., Slippery Rock, Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, Interdenominational Theological Seminary, Kennesaw State Univ., Liberty Univ., Grand Canyon Univ., and I am currently an Associate Professor of Religion and Program Director of Online General Education at Morehouse College.

I currently train in Muay Thai, Jun Fan (JKD Concepts), BJJ, and Wing Chun at the Francis Fong Martial Arts Academy in Johns Creek, GA. I assist in teaching Muay Thai and Jun Fan. I have additional black belts in Tang So Do, Kempo, and training in Kali, and Shooto.

I am an avid weightlifter and a NCSF certified Personal Trainer who hits the gym at 6 am, 5-6 days a week.
