Words have Power

"Life and death are in the power of the tongue" (Proverbs 18:21, NIV)

Our words have power! What we say can inflict pain, create motivation, calm a situation, and even touch the heart of another. We have a choice of how we use this power that we have. We can either build people up or tear them down. We only deceive ourselves if we think our words have no impact. Just ask someone who was bullied, and they will be able to tell what was said to them years after the fact and the effect the words had on them.

The old adage of sticks and stones may break my bones, but names will never hurt me...is a lie! Negative words deposit negative thoughts that, if reinforced, cause spiritual and psychological damage. People can begin to view themselves by the labels that others have placed on them....fat, dumb, ugly, slow, sorry, a waste, no good, and on and on.

And even worse, there are times when what we say to ourselves about ourselves! What is your self-talk like? Do you empower yourself or do you beat yourself up? Do you motivate yourself or do you devalue yourself?

I want to encourage you to speak Life to yourself! Speak encouragement to yourself! Speak positively about yourself to yourself! No matter what other people have said about you or how bad life has beaten you, tell yourself you are more than a conqueror!

If it does not feel like you are, think about this...... after all you have been through, you are still here, still breathing, still living, which means you are undefeated! Remind yourself of it and Live like it!
